Training and networking of those active in youth work and youth organizations
1° February 2014, Youth in Action project, Support and Empowerment for Youth at Ris, is startingand leading by the Municipality of Eskilstuna.
Youth Poverty project is a Youth support project for training and networking for youth workers, responsible for the most disadvantaged young people. The projects aims to meet the permanent thematic priority, “inclusion”. The seven participating municipalities from six countries, are all members of Eurotowns network for middle-sized cities. The partners are Eskilstuna (LP) Sweden, Schiedam The Netherlands, Sindelfingen Germany, ReggioEmilia Italy, Hasselt and Helmond Belgium and Girona Spain.
One important, identified, shared problem is issues related to youth poverty. The projects main target group is young people (age 13-20), who are disadvantaged compare to their peers and live in poverty, due to for example social barriers, educational difficulties and health problems. For some, it’s also a matter about e.g. addiction, crime, integration problems, unfinished school (dropouts) and unemployment. The current financial situation requires European cities to think about new, innovative and cost effective solutions to combat poverty among youth.
Eskilstuna will be responsible for a six days study visit program(23 – 28 March 2014) The program will present different aspects of the issue such as how to empower the young person to become active citizens, how to create a more inclusive society, youth unemployment, leisure, migrants, health and housing problems. There will also be presentations about competence, responsibilities and financial issues. Two methods will be highlighted. One is to present a solution with an integrated approach, about how to gather all organizations and persons connected to the young person e.g. social services, school, leisure organizations, police, volunteers and family members. Another method is to discuss and learn more about informal learning.
Since all the partners, are public organizations, and have a responsible for the issue, all partners will implement applicable new knowledge in their organizations. The evaluation of the study visit will be used as a platform for future cooperation and if possible EU funding. The conclusions of the study visit will be summarized in a report and disseminated to the rest of the Eurotowns members and some other European networks.
The participants in the project are all members in a European Network, and active member in the Social Inclusion Task Team.
This project is related to the Social Inclusion Task team, chaired by the municipality of Eskilstuna. The Task Team had a meeting in Sindelfingen in Germany in March 2013, to discuss Child Poverty & Volunteers. On the basis of what was exchanged in the meeting, a main conclusion was the that issues related to child/youth poverty, is a shared problem.
Two methods will be highlighted in the program. One is to present a solution with an “integrated approach”, about how to gather all organizations and persons connected to the youngster e.g. social services, school, leisure, police, volunteers and the family. Another method is to discuss and learn more about informal learning.
Start date of the project : 01/02/2014 – End date of the project: 01/06/2014
